Luxurious Luxor

Luxor Museum

Day 6 was another day at leisure, with us checking out of Princess Eman, waving goodbye to all our fellow travellers, and checking into Novotel Luxor for another night.

We decided to walk along the ubiquitous Corniche el Niel (any self respecting town in Egypt has a Corniche el Niel) and feel the pace of the city. It seemed to be a holiday, and we saw entire families crowding the streets and the shady leafy avenues for a "picnic in the park". After some money changing, window shopping and internetting, we felt that we were ready for Luxor museum. For some reason, entrance fees to this museum are more than Cairo museum even though it has far less items. Perhaps it is because the displays here are the result of recent costly excavations which have to be recovered as quickly as possible? Nonetheless, the museum is small, manageable and we definitely recommend it. There is a new hall that houses around 16 of some of the most magnificent statues discovered recently in Luxor temple. The attached museum shop has some good deals for Egyptian artifacts, but... don't forget to bargain!
