By now, we were convinced that we wanted to settle down and retire in every town we passed through, and Wanaka (www.wanaka.co.nz) was no exception. We checked in to the Wanaka Heights Motel and from the balcony of our room, we could see Lake Wanaka and all the mountains around it in an amazing sweep - the scene was extremely breathtaking against the setting sun, and we marvelled at God's creation and nature's limitless beauty. That night, we had dinner at a Mexican restaurant and then walked down to the marketplace. A lot of the shops in Wanaka sell camping and adventure gear. We roamed around for a while, had dessert at another restaurant, checked our mail at a cyber café, and then walked back to our motel for a good night's sleep after having logged 490 km and having some truly memorable experiences.
